Fall Beer Tasting: 5 Ways to Drink Responsibly This Season

5 Ways to Drink Responsibly This Season

Summer is winding down and fall weather is on the horizon! Crisp, cool air and bright orange leaves are some of our favorite things about the fall—but the best thing might be delicious seasonal beer. When it comes to craft beer, the flavors of fall are hard to beat.

Whether or not you’re a craft beer connoisseur, fall beer festivals are a great way to kick back and enjoy time with your friends and family this season. Oktoberfest is almost here at Caboose Commons, and it’s the perfect place for trying out brand new seasonal craft beer and delicious German-style food! When you’re spending time at your next fall beer tasting, keep these 5 tips in mind for drinking responsibly.

 1. Stay Hydrated

One of the best things you can do to drink alcohol in a responsible way is to stay hydrated while you do it! Drinking water can be easily forgotten about when you’re out drinking delicious craft beers, but it’s one of the best ways to pace yourself. Try drinking a glass of water in between each beer.

 2. Don’t Drink on an Empty Stomach

Make sure you eat plenty of food throughout the day before you start drinking. At Oktoberfest, we’ll have plenty of food prepared by our team of chefs to help keep you full and happy! Giving your stomach something to absorb the alcohol means you’ll have a better time for longer!

 3. Sip Your Drink Slowly

Enjoy it! The slower you drink your beer, the more time you can spend enjoying its fall flavors. Plus, sipping your beer also means you’re able to pace yourself while you drink.

 4. Know Your Limits

Be honest with yourself before your afternoon or evening of drinking begins. If you don’t drink alcohol often, it’s even more crucial to pace yourself as you go. The more aware and respectful of your limits you are, the more fun you’ll have this season!

 5. Plan Your Journey Home

If you need a ride home, make sure it’s a sober one. Reach out to Uber or Lyft for a safe ride, or have a designated driver already prepared to get you home safely.

If you live close enough to walk, make sure you stick with your group. Walking with your friends or family means it’ll be easier for vehicles to spot you, and you’ll all have each other’s backs in case of an emergency. It’s a good idea to have a flashlight with you as well, like a light on your phone, so that drivers can see you at night. Nearly three fourths of all pedestrian accidents occur in the dark, and almost half involve alcohol.

Keep these 5 tips in mind when you’re out enjoying new seasonal craft beers this fall. The more responsibly you drink, the better of a time you’ll have!
