Caboose Brewing Company’s Citra Session IPA

The purpose of Session drinks is to create a flavorful beer that is easy to drink and won’t weigh you down. When Caboose first came about in 2014, we knew we wanted a session IPA on tap. We opened our doors in May 2015 with our “Citra Wheat,” and have had this beer ever since!

In 2016, we decided “Citra Wheat” was well, a boring name. We changed our name to Citrasourous, because… dinosaurs. Some of you may even still call our Citra “Citrasourous” to this day! Our official name is Citra Session IPA because alliterations are fun, and we want to educate our community on session IPAs!

Caboose Brewing Company’s Citra Session IPA has been one of our top sellers since we opened in 2015. We have been waiting a very long time to can this beer, and we couldn’t be more excited to have another one of our staple beers available in cans. You’ll be able to find our Citra along with our other core beers like Fog IPA and Vienna, VA Lager.

What is a Session IPA?

Session IPAs date back to WW1 era, when workers manufacturing weapons drank on the job. They drank beers with traditionally lower ABV levels, so they could drink in “sessions.” This gave birth to, Session ales!

According to AmericanCraftBeer.com, “Workers were allotted two drinking periods or “sessions” of 4 hours each workday. This called for a lighter beer than your everyday stout or porter, allowing workers to drink more beer without getting too pissed, in the English sense.”

Citra Session IPA

“Totally crushable.” - Ryan Gaspard, Head of Brewery Operations

“The ideal crisp, fall beer.” -Scott McCall, Accountant

“I love pairing the Citra Session with a burger.” -Jennifer McLaughlin, Owner

“As far as IPAs go, it is not abrasively hoppy. The hops are bright and acidic, so it is less heavy. The Citra is a happy medium for IPA and non-IPA drinkers. Also pairs very nicely with our Mac n Cheese.” -David Rabin, Executive Chef
